2011 in review

WordPress kindly emailed me a link to these appalling stats. I know I’ve said it before, but I think it’s time I took this blog seriously.

New Year’s resolution #1 then. And I think I’ll make it more on Digital Publishing (whatever that is) and GTD.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,200 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 20 trips to carry that many people.

The Future of Work

I came across this image today and thought it worth sharing with you. It resonates with my own views that our current working practices are not supported by the organisational structures within which we work.

And it’s a bit of statistical fun!

2010 in review

Well, this is the easyway to create a blog post – they sent it to me, and I thought, ‘why not?’. Read more…

Offices are bad for you

I’ve started this post more than once and abandoned it more than once. It’s nothing sinister, but it is contentious. This is a post about working from home.  Read more…

The curse of the eternally urgent

How long is two-minutes? Longer than you think. I have, I like to think, an active mind, but I find brushing my teeth for two minutes twice a day (as the dental butchers recommend) interminably long and a ‘waste’ of time (in the sense that I am doing nothing else).

But the two-minute rule is core to GTD. Read more…

Digital frustration

No, I am not talking about being unable to use my finger to do something interesting.

What I am talking about is the expectation I have, nearly all the time, that I can do what I want to do in this connected world. I have written elsewhere about the panic I have felt when Facebook went down Read more…

Stationery addiction

I am somewhat surprised at how much I have written about addiction on this blog. But it’s true – I have an addictive personality. I’d like to think that people are addicted to me, but I fear that the truth is that people are busy trying to give me up. Read more…

Time to start over…

I’ve been thinking a lot about this blog – mostly because I have started a Project 365 blog elsewhere and this led me to question what’s going on with this one.

I fear I have let it slide somewhat and perhaps it has lost focus – not surprising for a man with a Magpie Mind. So, dear reader (if indeed you do exist), I faithfully promise to start blogging on ELT, Digital, Doctor Who and GTD once again very soon.

I’m on vacation in the States (as the Americanism in the title might suggest), so I have a little time to invest in this. I hope you will start to enjoy what I’m writing again soon.

Right, off for a bagel and cwaffeee….

FaceAddiction

For the last 15 minutes Facebook was down. This caused a flurry of activity all across Twitter, but more disturbing (given my last post), was my own reaction. Read more…

NoFi. WhyFi?

I can’t decide if I am an addict or suffering from human rights abuses.

We’re on holiday in darkest Northumberland at the moment. It really is fantastic up here – dramatic coastline, incredible beaches, clouds pouring toward infinity (see the photo below). I’ve never been to this part of the country, but I am definitely coming back. Read more…
